Proper flushing helps prevent bit balling, reduces heat buildup, and minimizes wear on the carbide buttons and steel body. The arrangement and number of flushing holes are carefully engineered to optimize cleaning of the cutting structure and maintain drilling efficiency.

The performance of a rock drilling button bit is influenced by several factors, including bit design, rock type, drilling parameters, and maintenance practices. Adjusting rotation speed, feed force, and impact power allows operators to balance penetration rate and bit life. Regular inspection for wear patterns, broken buttons, and cracks in the steel body is essential to prevent premature failure and maintain safe operation. Worn bits can sometimes be refurbished by regrinding the carbide inserts and re‑profiling the face, extending service life and reducing overall drilling costs.
